British publisher, digital disruption study
Situation
A small and traditional publisher requested an overview of the digital developments in the media sector.
Approach
We analysed the challenges facing the media industry and examples of new business models of successful players in the broadcasting and press sectors. Major changes are disrupting the media industry, such as the fragmentation of the audience, new consumption habits on new devices, the digitisation of tools and systems of news productions, free services models (press, internet, DTT), and the emergence of new types of players, as well as consolidation. Thus, all types of media players must reshape their business model, diversify by leveraging from their strategic assets (e.g. clients, knowledge) by monetising their audience. We presented these trends and shared the case studies of media companies which have successfully adapted to their business model to the digital world.
Results
The review was well received, and the publisher gained an understanding of the market, technology and applications trends in the media, mobile and fixed telecom sectors, as well as their implications.
